Cursed Text Generator

Everything switched on at once. Marks above the letter, marks under it, and marks straight through the middle. This is the setting where words stop being words.

One-tap styles that survive strict filters

Each of these adds a single combining mark per letter instead of a stack. They stay readable, they cost far fewer characters, and they rarely get stripped by a bio field.

What cursed text actually is

Cursed text is ordinary text with Unicode combining marks piled onto it. Those marks exist so writing systems can build letters like é out of a base letter plus an accent. Nothing in the Unicode standard caps how many you may stack, so you can keep adding until the letter vanishes underneath.

The important consequence: this is not an image, not a font, and not something the reader has to install. It is characters. That is why it copies, pastes, and survives being sent to someone on a different phone.

People use "cursed text" as the umbrella term for anything deliberately mangled with Unicode. That includes upside-down letters and mirrored alphabets, which work by picking different characters entirely. This page does the stacked-marks kind, which is the one people usually mean.

How to make cursed text

  1. Type your text. Put a word, name or phrase in the box at the top of the page.
  2. Leave Cursed selected. The page loads at intensity 10 with Above, Through and Below all switched on, which is the full cursed effect.
  3. Shuffle until it looks right. Marks are chosen at random, so some arrangements land better than others. Shuffle rerolls without changing your settings.
  4. Check the length and copy. Pick your destination from the dropdown so the counter can warn you before the field truncates it, then tap Copy.

The Through group is what makes it cursed

Zalgo grows upward and downward. Cursed text does that and then puts marks across the letter body: strikethroughs, solidus overlays, tie bars that link two characters together, and the Cyrillic enclosing mark at U+0489. Those are the ones that break the shape of the letter rather than decorating around it.

Toggle Through on and off above and watch what happens. The height barely changes. Legibility falls off a cliff. If you want damage that still reads, that switch is the one to reach for first, well before you touch the intensity slider.

Six settings, side by side

Same word, six different treatments, with the real character cost of each. Every combining mark counts as its own character against a bio or post limit, so the right-hand column is the one that decides whether your text survives the paste.

The six-letter word cursed costs 6 characters plain and around 105 at full curse. That is the entire budget of a TikTok bio spent on one word, which is exactly why so many people paste cursed text and watch it come back chopped in half.

If you only want one thing struck out

Open the one-tap styles inside the generator. Strikethrough and Slashed apply a single mark per letter, which looks deliberate rather than broken and costs 12 characters instead of 105.

Where cursed text survives, and where it does not

Limits below come from each platform's own documentation, checked in September 2026. "Survives" means the marks render rather than being stripped or rejected.

Where it gets removed on purpose

Cursed text is allowed everywhere. It still disappears in a few predictable places, and knowing which saves a lot of retyping.

  • Discord usernames. Not filtered, rejected. The username field only accepts lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods. Your display name is the field that takes it, and the Discord guide covers the difference properly.
  • Discord server nicknames. Many servers run moderation bots that strip or normalize tall stacks, because they push the member list around for everyone else.
  • Instagram bios. Instagram filters Unicode harder in profile fields than in captions. A stack that works in a caption can come out flattened in the bio.
  • Roblox. Roblox runs aggressive text filtering on names and chat, and most combining marks do not make it through. There is a separate guide on what does.
  • Live chat. Twitch and YouTube chat filters often treat repeated combining marks as spam and drop the message without telling you.

Turning cursed text back into normal text

The base letters are untouched underneath the marks, so nothing is lost. Deleting every combining character returns your original string exactly. Practical ways to do that:

  • Paste it into a plain search box or a URL bar. Many of them strip the marks for you.
  • In a code editor or spreadsheet, normalize to NFD and remove anything in the U+0300 to U+036F range.
  • Retype it. Ugly, but for a six-word caption it is faster than looking up a tool.

What it is good for

Cursed text works when the damage is the point. Horror edits, glitchcore and weirdcore posts, YouTube thumbnails, Discord server dividers, alt account names, and captions where you want a phrase to read as redacted or corrupted.

It stops working the moment somebody actually needs to read it. For a bio or a display name you are almost always better served by the lighter version. Bios get skimmed in about a second, and a name nobody can parse is a name nobody remembers.

Please do not put it in things people rely on

This is the one genuine caution worth repeating. Screen readers announce combining marks they cannot fold into a recognized character, one at a time. A cursed sentence becomes minutes of audio describing accent names, which makes it effectively unreadable for anyone using assistive software.

Decoration is fine. Navigation, headings, alt text, contact details and anything someone has to read to use your page are not. Put the plain version next to it and nobody loses anything.

Cursed text questions

What counts as cursed text?

Cursed text is the umbrella term for any text deliberately mangled with Unicode: stacked combining marks, mirrored letters, upside-down characters and struck-through words all get filed under it. On this page it means the chaotic stacked kind, with marks going above, through and below at once.

What makes cursed text different from glitch text?

Mostly the Through marks. Glitch text usually keeps the damage above and below the line so the word shape survives. Cursed text drives marks straight across the letters as well, which is why it reads as broken rather than decorated.

Will cursed text get me banned anywhere?

Not for using it, no. Platforms do remove it in specific places: Discord servers often auto-replace it in nicknames because tall stacks break the member list layout, and some Twitch and YouTube chats filter it as spam. Using it in a caption or a post is fine everywhere.

Can screen readers handle cursed text?

Badly. A screen reader announces combining marks it cannot merge into a known character, so a short cursed phrase can turn into a minute of mark names. Keep it out of anything someone needs to read to use your page, and put the plain version nearby.

How do I make cursed text for Discord?

Use it in messages and in your About Me, where you have 2,000 and 190 characters to work with. Do not try it in your username, which only accepts lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods. Server nicknames often work but are frequently stripped by moderation bots.

Why does my cursed text come back shorter than I pasted?

The field truncated it. Each mark is a character, so a six-letter word at full intensity can cost well over a hundred. Pick your destination in the dropdown under the output box and the counter will tell you before you paste rather than after.

Is there a cursed text generator that works on mobile?

This one. It is built mobile first, the controls are sized for thumbs, and copy works through the standard clipboard API on both iOS and Android. Nothing needs to be installed.

Can I undo cursed text?

Yes. Normalize the string to NFD and delete every character in the U+0300 to U+036F range, and you get your original text back exactly. Pasting into a plain search box often does this for you.

Character costs measured from this generator on 2026-09-08, averaged over 200 randomizations each.
