How to make glitch text

1. Type or paste your text. Put your word, name or caption in the top box. Up to 1,000 characters, and it updates as you type.
2. Pick a preset or move the slider. Subtle keeps it readable. Zalgo and Cursed bury the letters. The slider gives you every step in between.
3. Choose where the marks sit. Above, Through and Below can each be switched off. Turning off Through is the quickest way to keep words legible.
4. Check the length, then copy. Pick the field you are pasting into so the counter can warn you before the text gets cut off, then tap Copy.

There is no account, no export step and no watermark. The result is text, so it copies like text and pastes like text.

What the intensity slider actually changes

Intensity sets how many combining marks get stacked onto each letter. At 1 you get one or two marks and the word barely flinches. At 10 you get up to fifteen per side, which is where the letters stop holding their shape.

The number matters more than it looks, because every mark is a separate character. Take the word haunted. Plain, it costs 7 characters. At intensity 3 it costs around 35. At intensity 8 it costs about 130. That is the difference between fitting an 80-character TikTok bio and getting silently chopped in half.

Where glitch text works, and where it gets stripped

Most places accept it. The ones that do not are usually enforcing a character allowlist rather than blocking the effect on purpose. Limits below were checked against each platform's own documentation in September 2026.

The Discord username row catches people out constantly. Discord replaced its old name-plus-numbers system with unique usernames that only accept a narrow ASCII set, so glitch text will simply be rejected there. Pick the style that fits the job

The presets are not decoration. They change how much of your character budget the effect eats and how likely a filter is to remove it.

• Subtle and Glitch for bios, display names and anything short. The word stays recognizable, which matters when someone is deciding whether to follow you.
• Corrupted and Zalgo for captions, comments and messages, where you have thousands of characters to spend.
• Cursed when legibility is not the point. It runs marks through the letters as well as around them.
• Creepy when you want something to feel slightly wrong rather than obviously broken.
• Corrupted for the damaged-file look that still reads, and Hacked for something closer to a failing terminal than a haunting.

One naming note, since it causes real confusion: none of this is a font. People search for a glitch font generator and land on tools like this one, which change the characters rather than the typeface. That is exactly why the effect survives a copy and paste, and why nobody has to install anything to see it.

If a field keeps rejecting stacked marks, open the one-tap styles inside the generator. Strikethrough, underline and slashed use a single mark per letter, so they cost a fraction of the characters and slip past filters that kill heavier stacks.

What glitch text actually is

It is not an image, not a font and not a hack. Unicode includes a category of characters called combining marks that have no width of their own and attach to whatever came before them. They exist so languages can build letters like é and ế out of parts. Nothing in the standard says how many you may stack, so you can keep adding them until the letter disappears under the pile.

That is the whole trick. The base letters underneath are untouched, which is why deleting the marks gives you your original text back, and why search engines and copy-paste both still work. Two things worth knowing before you paste

Screen readers read every mark. Assistive software announces combining characters it cannot fold into a known letter, so a five-word cursed caption can turn into a long stream of mark names. Keep glitch text out of anything a person needs to read to navigate or understand your page, and put the plain version next to it.

Very heavy stacks have broken things before. Some versions of Apple Messages could not lay out extreme zalgo and crashed, and the same behavior was used deliberately against iOS devices. Gmail has had its own failures with it, which is documented on Wikipedia's page on zalgo text. Current apps handle it far better, but sending a wall of maximum-intensity text to someone on an old phone is still an unkind thing to do.
